Texas Named Top State for Corporate Expansion
Texas was once again named a top state for new and expanded corporate facilities by Site Selection magazine. The hefty number of projects landed Texas the 1st place by a wide gap. Site Selection listed Texas as having a total of 642 qualified projects, followed by Ohio at 515. This is Texas’ fifth consecutive win since it beat out Ohio in 2009.
The magazine also named Greg Abbot as the winner for the Governor’s Cup for 2016 for the most qualified projects of any state. Gov. Abbot, who spoke to Site Selection magazine, credits this growth to the expanding diversity of the Texas economy.
“The reason is we have continued to diversify our economy in areas and sectors that have nothing to do with energy. The high-tech sector is in high growth in Texas, and our healthcare sector and innovation in life sciences are growing very rapidly.”
What does this mean for the commercial real estate industry? With the growth in the health care sector, Texas corporate expansion is at an all time high. This not only supports the Texas economy, it also supports a robust CRE industry. As companies continue to expand and prosper, Texas is bolstering its CRE projects.
